Farm Trucks and Interstate Traffic by the State Line
Heavy Duty Towing in Grand Bay covers the far southwest corner of Mobile County, where a community of 3,460 people (2020 census) sits along US 90 about 3 miles east of the Mississippi line. Mobile is 26 miles northeast on US 90. It is a long way from help, so tell us where you are and call (251) 355-4026 as early as you can.
Roads in and out
Grand Bay's business section stretches along US 90. SR 188 leads southeast about 8 miles to Bayou La Batre and 26 miles to Dauphin Island. On I-10, Exit 4 is SR 188 east (Grand Bay Wilmer Road), and the exit list shows it only a few miles after the Mississippi state line. A development area sits at the intersection of Grand Bay-Wilmer Road and the interstate. For long-haul drivers, this is among the first exits after entering Alabama from the west.
Produce and timber
Pecan production supplements residents' incomes, and the community has a large peach business. Satsumas have returned to commercial production in a more weather-hardy variety. Grand Bay watermelons are the produce most identified with the community. Early settlement here was driven by timber, and much of the region south of Grand Bay was clearcut. In season, that means farm trucks, loaded produce trailers and flatbeds on small roads. A spoiled load is a clock running, so tell us what is on board and how long it can sit.
A community with history
George Cassibry, the first settler, arrived in 1853, and a post office opened in 1870. In the early 1900s the Grand Bay Land Company sold ten-acre lots, marketed largely to people in Chicago and other northern cities. Hurricanes in 1906 and 1910 and a severe freeze drove many residents away. The Grand Bay Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The area covers 8.70 square miles at 89 feet, and it drains toward Franklin Creek.

Crossing the state line
I-10 enters Alabama at exit 0, the Mississippi line, and Exit 4 follows soon after. Drivers coming from Pascagoula often run into trouble right after the border, when fuel, heat and long hours catch up with a truck. Tell us whether you are inside Alabama or still in Mississippi when you call, because the answer changes who can reach you. Coastal traffic also pours down SR 188, and Dauphin Island, 26 miles away, adds weekend RVs, boat trailers and trucks hauling gear.
