Frequently Asked Questions
Heavy Duty Towing Questions
How much does heavy duty towing cost in Mobile, AL?
Published rate sheets from other states show a heavy tow hook-up of about $450 plus $9.50 to $10 per mile, recovery with a heavy wrecker at about $350 to $850 per hour, a rotator at about $790 to $1,500 per hour, and storage at about $65 to $100 per day. Your written invoice estimate is the price.
Can you tow a semi through the George Wallace Tunnel?
Tunnels are routed case by case. Wikipedia lists the clearance at 16 feet, and hazmat loads traveling west on I-10 must use the Cochrane-Africatown USA Bridge instead. Tell dispatch your height and your load and we will plan the route.
How do you move a big rig that breaks down on the Bayway?
The Jubilee Parkway runs about 7.5 miles across the top of Mobile Bay, with little room to work. We send a heavy duty tow truck, set up traffic control first, and tow the unit off the bridge to a safe spot before any repair. Tell dispatch your direction of travel and the nearest exit so we can come at it from the right side.
What do you need to know when I call?
Your interstate or highway, direction, mile marker or exit, the unit type and weight class, whether it is loaded and with what, whether anything is hazmat, what is wrong, and who is paying.
Do you answer at night and on holidays?
Dispatch answers 24/7. After-hours work is billed as shown on your written invoice estimate.
Can you bill my fleet or my insurance company?
Yes. Tell dispatch who is paying: driver, fleet, insurer or broker, and we set up the billing on the call.
Do you cover the Bayway and Baldwin County?
Yes. We cover the Jubilee Parkway across Mobile Bay and I-10 through Spanish Fort, Daphne, Loxley and Robertsdale to the Florida line.
Heavy Duty Towing Questions
What is considered a heavy duty tow?
Anything in the heavy classes: tractor-trailers, box trucks, dump trucks, buses, RVs and equipment. Many county schedules draw the line at 26,000 pounds.
Do you tow RVs and motorhomes?
Yes. Class A motorhomes are heavy and fragile. We choose a lift or flatbed method that protects the frame and body.
Can you tow equipment like excavators?
Yes, with a lowboy or landoll. Tell us the machine, weight and where it is parked.
What if I do not know the weight?
Give us the make, model and what is on board. We can often work from that, or from a door sticker.
Semi Truck Towing Questions
Can you tow a loaded semi?
Yes. Tell us the load and weight. If it can be split into tractor and trailer, we do that.
Will you tow just the trailer?
Yes. We hook the trailer behind a road tractor, or stage it for your relief tractor.
What if my brakes will not release?
We can cage or supply air to the spring brakes so the rig can be moved safely.
Can you pull a semi out of a ditch?
Yes, with winch lines and the right wrecker. Soft shoulders after rain are common here.
Accident & Rollover Recovery Questions
Do you recover overturned semis?
Yes. We use heavy wreckers, air cushions and rotators as the scene requires.
What if the load spilled?
Tell us what it is. Non-hazmat loads can be cleaned up or transferred. Hazmat needs the right responders first.
Who pays for an accident recovery?
It varies. Tell dispatch whether the driver, fleet, insurer or broker is paying and we set up the invoice.
Can you work with police on the interstate?
Yes. We coordinate with troopers and ALDOT on lane closures and traffic control.
Container Chassis & Trailer Towing Questions
Can you tow a loaded container?
Yes, on its chassis, with the right wrecker. Give us the weight if you know it.
What if the chassis belongs to a pool?
Tell dispatch. The owner often has to approve repairs and may have rules for tows.
Do you tow reefer trailers?
Yes. Tell us about any temperature or time limit.
Can you move a trailer to a yard?
Yes. Give us the destination and gate rules.
Bus Towing Questions
Can you tow a motorcoach?
Yes. We choose a lift that protects the body, bags and front end.
Do you tow school buses?
Yes. Tell dispatch the district, the bus type and whether students are aboard.
What if passengers are on board?
They get off and stand behind the barrier before we hook up.
Can you coordinate with a replacement bus?
Yes. Tell dispatch the timing and we plan around it.
Truck Roadside Service Questions
Can you change a tire on a semi?
Yes. Tell us the tire size and position, and whether you have a spare.
Do you deliver diesel?
Yes. We bring fuel to dry tanks and tell you the price on the call.
What if the fix does not work?
We switch to a tow. The same truck often handles it.
Can you open a locked cab?
Yes. We aim to open it without damage.
